As part of an activity to promote tourism on the island of Sainte Marie, President Andry RAJOELINA observed the whales passing through the seas of the island today, August 21, 2022.
Tourism is reviving the economy of Sainte-Marie, but due to the global health crisis, flights between Sainte-marie and other parts of Madagascar and other countries have been reduced. “Government is supporting the recovery of tourism on the island by resuming flights from the sister islands so that foreign tourists can reside here,” the President said.
Distance and sea crossing are also an issue for those wishing to visit this island. The President also gave instructions to expedite the construction of the RN5 and to look to the construction of the ports in Antsiraka and Lokintsy to make it easier for tourists in Sainte Marie.
The President Andry RAJOELINA finished the visit of the representatives of the artisans in Ravoraha in Sainte Marie Island.
During this time he announced the creation of a place to exhibit and sell the handicrafts made in Sainte Marie or “Maison de l’Art et de l’Artisanat”. This “Maison de l’Art et de l’Artisanat” will be placed next to the Tourism Office, so that the tourists will be more prepared to finance it.
The President also responded to requests by merchants and craftsmen not to levy taxes due to Sainte Marie’s crafters over the last two years, during the Covid-19 outbreak.
In addition, the President has also offered assistance to artisans and sellers of crafts and paintings.
The Tourism Office in Sainte Marie has also been renovated to improve the reception of tourists arriving in the city. This is where you can get all the information you need about Sainte-Marie Island such as places to visit, hotels and all the local tourist attractions. This infrastructure is designed to provide a well deserved welcome to the tourists and renew their services.
The carnival marked the event “Whales en fete” in Sainte-Marie where participants showcased the island’s wealth and culture.
Tourism is really an inspiration to revitalise the economy of the island of Sainte Marie, and to revive it, the President Andry RAJOELINA announced that in a short while a new agreement will be signed to get the connecting airlines of Sainte Marie and the sister islands.
The President said the reconstruction of roads already included in the PIC project will also be accelerated. To address the electricity crisis there will also be the installation of a solar power plant that will produce up to 1MW
Sainte Marie now has her own court of the Supreme Court. Those who need court cases don’t have to cross a boat to Fenoarivo Atsinanana. Because even the “judicial cases” was taken to Fenoarivo Atsinanana before.
This kind of infrastructure will also have a profound impact on the judiciary sector, especially the security sector because those who have been harmed must be judged and punished according to the law to Madagascar. And it is the duty of the Government to ensure the freedom of every individual to bring his/her case to court.
The presence of facilities like the new Police Commissioner inaugurated today in Sainte Marie fulfils the first “Peace close to the people”. Making history here too as Sainte Marie had its first National Police Commission in 1976 and now it’s getting new infrastructure.
There is no development without security. The fight against insecurity across the Island, be it urban or rural, has always been a priority for us. And no district is forgotten either Sainte Marie got her share today.
